lyrics

Hooray, hooray for the coming of May
And the song birds that sing in the trees,
The Penobscot flows south to the bay at its mouth
And gently on down to the sea.

Fare well Old Man Winter we bid you adieu
With your ice and your wind and your snow
Your tempest gives way to the colors of May
And the blossoms and flowers that grow.

We’ll pull up the dories on these rocky shores
To caulk them and paint them again
And find a fair breeze to take to the seas
Off the fog shrouded coasts of old Maine.

We’ll take up the catch and set course for home
With gulls and the herons in tow
And fast fall to sleep with the swell from the deep
Far away from the strong winds that blow.
