about

Written by the blind Irish harper Turlough O’ Carolan (1670 – 1738), this Irish planxty or march is also known by the name “Welch Morgan” and first appeared in “A Collection of the Most Celebrated Irish Tunes” (Dublin, 1724, p. 23) as "Morgan Macgann." It most likely refers to Morgan Magan of Togherstown, County Westmeath who died in 1738 who is also probably the subject of another composition by O’Carolan entitled “Captain Magan.”
