about

Logan Water

Dating from at least the later years of the 17th century, Logan Water is a Scottish melody which was widely used and borrowed in Scotland and Ireland up until the 20th century. It was probably originally composed as a harp tune but many variants exist, even a march. In the 19th century a set of very romantic words were written for the tune.

Blind Mary (Máire Dhall)

Although usually attributed to Turlough O’Carolan (1670 – 1738) scholars have raised some doubts as to this provenance. What is known is that Máire Dhall was another blind harper who lived near O’Carolan and who was well known as a teacher of the instrument. The exact nature of the relationship between the two is unknown.
